Learn Turkish by reading at your level
Turkish looks daunting at first — the suffixes stack up, the word order is unfamiliar, and the vocabulary shares almost nothing with European languages. The good news is that frequency works in your favour. The most common 1,500 Turkish words cover roughly 80% of everyday text, so building that core vocabulary first and reading texts where most words are already familiar is one of the fastest ways to make real progress.
Beeblio organises Turkish vocabulary into bands of 300, 800, 1,500, 3,000, 5,000, 8,000, and 12,000 words, all ranked by the wordfreq corpus. Every word you look up is placed in its band so you always know whether you're stretching into rare territory or plugging a gap in your core. Use the level test to find where you stand, the difficulty checker to see whether a Turkish article or story is within reach, and the graded reading library to find texts that challenge you without overwhelming you.
Whether you're memorising your first hundred Turkish words or working through intermediate news articles, everything on this page is built around one idea: comprehensible input — reading just above your comfort zone — is how language sticks.

Questions
How do I know which Turkish texts are right for my level?
Use Beeblio's difficulty checker: paste any Turkish text and it will show what percentage of words fall inside each frequency band. A good rule of thumb is that if you recognise around 95% of the words, the text is ideal for reading practice — challenging enough to teach you new vocabulary without breaking your comprehension.
Do I need to know Turkish grammar before I start reading?
Not necessarily. Many learners find that exposure to real text — even simple graded readings — helps grammar patterns become intuitive over time. Starting with high-frequency vocabulary through Beeblio's word lists gives you an anchor, and the suffixes often start to make sense once you've seen them dozens of times in context.
Where do Beeblio's Turkish word frequency rankings come from?
Rankings are drawn from the wordfreq corpus, a large multilingual dataset built from a wide range of real-world text sources. This means the words at the top of the list are genuinely the ones you'll encounter most often in Turkish books, articles, and everyday writing — not just textbook vocabulary.
