Turkish text difficulty checker
Paste any Turkish text here — a news article, a song lyric, a recipe, a subtitles excerpt — and Beeblio will break it down by word frequency. Each word is placed into one of seven bands, from the 300 most common Turkish words right up to the rarest (beyond 12,000). You'll see at a glance what percentage of the text sits within your current vocabulary and exactly which words are new or uncommon for your level.
The frequency ranks come from the wordfreq corpus, which is built on a large, real-world sample of written Turkish. That means the rankings reflect the words you're genuinely most likely to meet while reading, not an arbitrary textbook list. The roughly 1,500 most frequent Turkish words cover about 80% of everyday text, so once you know those, most passages become manageable — and this tool shows you how close you already are.
Use the results to decide whether a text is the right challenge for today, to pull out a focused vocabulary list, or simply to explore how Turkish frequency works in practice. No account needed; just paste and go.
How it works
Paste a text in Turkish (up to 6,000 characters). Every word is looked up in a frequency list; for each band — the top 300, 800, 1,500, 3,000, 5,000, 8,000 and 12,000 words — you see the share of the text a learner at that band already knows. Comprehensible reading sits around 95–98% known: we call ≥97% easy, 92–97% just right, 85–92% hard, and below that too hard.
You also get the new words worth learning (unknown but common, in frequency order) and the rare words — names, jargon, typos — that no learner should stop for.
Questions
How does Beeblio handle Turkish word forms and suffixes?
Turkish is an agglutinative language, so one root word can appear in dozens of suffixed forms. Beeblio uses the wordfreq corpus, which accounts for real-world usage of inflected forms, so a word like gidiyorum is matched to its root frequency rather than being treated as an entirely unknown word.
What do the coloured frequency bands actually mean?
Each band groups words by how commonly they appear in Turkish text: the first band covers the top 300 words, then 301–800, 801–1,500, 1,501–3,000, 3,001–5,000, 5,001–8,000, and finally 8,001–12,000+. A word in band one is something you'll encounter constantly; a word in the highest band is rare even for native readers.
Can I use this tool to choose texts for comprehensible input practice?
Yes — that's exactly what it's designed for. A commonly cited guideline is that you should understand around 95–98% of a text for comfortable, enjoyable reading. Check the breakdown this tool gives you, and if too many words fall above your current band, look for a slightly simpler text first.
