Turkish reading level test — 2 minutes, 24 words

This free two-minute test gives you a clear, honest answer to one question: how far does your Turkish vocabulary actually stretch? You'll see 24 words drawn from Beeblio's frequency bands — 300, 800, 1,500, 3,000, 5,000, 8,000, and 12,000 most common words — and simply mark the ones you know. The words come from the wordfreq corpus, so they reflect the Turkish you'll actually meet in everyday reading, not textbook lists.

When you're done, Beeblio maps your answers to a reading band and tells you which texts you're ready to tackle comfortably. Knowing your band takes the guesswork out of choosing Turkish articles, stories, or books: too easy and you stop growing; too hard and you lose the thread. The sweet spot — where you know most words but still meet new ones — is where real progress happens.

No sign-up required. Tap the words you recognise, skip any you don't, and you'll have your result in about two minutes. From there you can explore Turkish texts on Beeblio that sit right at your level.

How it works

You see 24 Turkish words, from the most common down to rank 12,000, and say for each whether you know it. Knowing at least two thirds of a band's words passes that band; your level is the highest band passed. No account, two minutes.

The bands

  1. First words — the top 300 words
  2. Getting by — the top 800 words
  3. Everyday — the top 1,500 words
  4. Confident — the top 3,000 words
  5. Fluent reader — the top 5,000 words
  6. Advanced — the top 8,000 words
  7. Near-native — the top 12,000 words

Questions

How does Beeblio decide which band I belong to?

The 24 test words are spread across Beeblio's frequency bands, from the 300 most common Turkish words up to the 12,000 most common. Based on which words you recognise, the test finds the highest band where you're still comfortable — meaning you'd know enough vocabulary to follow a text written mostly at that level.

What does it mean if I recognise a word — do I have to know all its forms?

If you understand the core meaning when you see the word, count it. You don't need to know every grammatical form or every possible usage — Turkish has rich suffixing, so no one expects that. Honest answers give you the most useful result.

How accurate is a 24-word test?

Twenty-four carefully chosen frequency-ranked words are enough to estimate your reading band reliably — each word is doing real diagnostic work across a specific frequency range. The result won't be perfect down to the last word, but it's accurate enough to point you to texts where you'll make genuine progress.
