Learn Czech by reading at your level
Czech has a reputation for being difficult, but the single most effective thing you can do as a learner is read texts where you already understand most of the words. That sweet spot — knowing roughly 95% of the vocabulary on the page — is what researchers call comprehensible input, and it's where real acquisition happens. Beeblio makes it easy to find that spot by ranking every Czech word by how often it appears in real-world text, using frequency data from the wordfreq corpus.
The tools on this page work together. Check which frequency band a Czech word falls into, run a level test to see how many of the most common Czech words you already know, or paste any Czech text into the difficulty checker to see whether it's a comfortable read or a stretch. When you're ready to read, the graded library serves up articles, stories, and excerpts matched to your current level.
Beeblio's frequency bands run from the 300 most common Czech words all the way to 12,000, giving you a clear ladder to climb. The roughly 1,500 most frequent words cover about 80% of everyday Czech text — so building that core vocabulary first gives you a strong foundation for everything else.

Questions
How does Beeblio decide which Czech words are 'common'?
Every word is ranked by how frequently it appears across a large collection of real Czech text, using the wordfreq corpus. The more often a word shows up in everyday writing, the lower its frequency rank and the higher its priority for learners.
What level of Czech do I need to start using the graded reader?
Any level — even complete beginners. The library includes texts built around the 300 and 800 most common Czech words, so you can start reading real sentences from day one without being overwhelmed by unknown vocabulary.
Can I check whether a Czech text I found online is right for my level?
Yes. Paste it into the difficulty checker and Beeblio will highlight each word by frequency band, so you can see at a glance how much of the vocabulary sits within your current range and how many words are likely to be new.
